Japanese Community Youth Council
2012 Pine Street

In 1969, a group of Japanese American youth organizations formed a youth council to share information and to discussion issues that impact young people and to re-establish Nihonmachi as a center of activities for Japanese American youth. The council changed its name to the Japanese Community Youth Council (JCYC) and moved into a vacant building on Sutter Street. In May 1970, JCYC was officially incorporated as a non-profit organization.

JCYC has become one of San Francisco’s most prominent youth organizations. While still committed to youth from the Japanese American community, JCYC has evolved and grown into an organization which annually serves young people from all socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds. JCYC programs support children and youth from their pre-school years to their early years in college. The organization has organized and offers young people a comprehensive array of services to ensure that they have the resources and support necessary to grow into healthy, productive citizens.
