Soko Hardware
1698 Post Street

The Soko Hardware store has been owned and operated by the Ashizawa family since 1925. The original store, located at 1683 Post Street, was established by Masayasu and Naka Ashizawa. The Ashizawas returned to San Francisco at the end of World War II and reopened their store, but urban redevelopment in the 1960s forced them to relocate. Eventually, Soko Hardware moved to its current location at 1698 Post Street.

Now under the guidance of Roy Ashizawa, the third generation of the Ashizawa family, the shop specializes in beautifully crafted Japanese tools for gardening and woodworking. In addition to the usual hardware store items, you can find unique goods such as seeds for Japanese plants and books about topics such as making shoji screens.
