Italian Residence (San Jose Chiropractic)

Italian Residence (San Jose Chiropractic), 600 N. Third St. For most of the history of this early 1900s building, it served as the residence of an Italian family. North San Jose was home to a large Italian community, and there were many Italian residences and a few businesses that clustered around Japantown. Similar to the Japanese, many Italians worked in the agricultural industry.

The building was purchased by two Nisei attorneys in 1960, Wayne Kanemoto and Peter Nakahara, who renovated it to use as their offices. In 1962, Wayne Kanemoto became the first Nisei to be honored by an appointment to be a Municipal Judge by the governor. In 1970, Judge Kanemoto became the sole owner of the building when Peter Nakahara built a new office down the block. Since then, the building has been leased as office space to another attorney, and most recently, to San Jose Chiropractic.
